1964.5 (1965) Ford Mustang 289 Convertible

The 1964.5 Mustang convertible is a 289, toploader 4 speed.. I would also call it something between a survivor and nice driver.

It is finished in Rangoon red with a white and red interior. It has been restored/ reconditioned over a 15-20 year period and stored much of its life, original owner can't remember mileage and there would be no way to determine if it is original given the age.

Cosmetically, it would probably win a local show but does have marks nicks and dings from age and use. There is no rust that we could find but probably had rust repair years ago under the car as you can see and parts of the car appear to be done more professionally than other other areas. The dings most visible are on the hood.

The car has been reconditioned with various NOS and used parts, and the original 260 engine was replaced with the more popular 289. All accessories we tested work, and it is also a manual brake, manual steering car. Most of the pieces unique to a 1964.5 have been removed over the years in favor of 1965 parts.

Mechanically, the car has been setup to drive and handle like a 1965 Shelby GT350. The front suspension, brakes, shocks, tires and wheels are new. The transmission was rebuilt years ago, and the rear end is a 8" rear end. It is also a stout motor and fun to drive a bit aggressively. It is not for the person that would prefer a 6 cylinder convertible with an automatic transmission.

While this runs and drives down the road nicely, make no mistake that all of these are projects and they are not Toyota Camrys. This one is meant for aggressive driving or racing as you can see, but retains the original look down to the wheels. The Radial T/A tires and factory style wheels are a week old. The convertible top is brand new. We have brand new Radial T/A tires and factory style wheels are a week old.
