What is Route 66?

Route 66 is one of the most legendary highways in the United States, stretching approximately 2,448 miles (3,940 kilometers) from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California. It was established in 1926 and became an iconic symbol of American freedom, adventure, and exploration.

Also known as the "Main Street of America" or the "Mother Road," Route 66 played a significant role in the development of the American West. It served as a major transportation route for travelers, migrants, and goods, connecting rural and urban communities across eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.
