Dave Alvin - Blackjack David 2LP

Dave Alvin’s Blackjack David is one of the defining records of the American singer-songwriter and guitarist’s solo career. Originally released in 1998, the album puts greater emphasis on Alvin’s acoustic playing, distinctive voice and storytelling, moving beyond the electric-guitar reputation he established with The Blasters.

For 2026, Blackjack David returns as an expanded Deluxe Edition on double vinyl. The album has been newly remastered and is expanded with two bonus tracks, including the previously unreleased “Angel On Your Shoulder.” This edition also features new liner notes by music journalist Peter Blackstock.

Musically, the record brings together Americana, alt-country, folk, blues and roots rock. Songs such as “Blackjack David,” “Abilene,” “New Highway” and “California Snow” showcase Alvin’s ability to combine American roots traditions with vivid, character-driven songwriting.
