Product information
A fascinating and increasingly rare collector’s book, 1000 Nudes – Uwe Scheid Collection, published by TASCHEN in 1994. This copy is the first edition, presented in hardcover and preserved in very good condition.
With an impressive 755 pages, this extensive photographic volume offers a historical perspective on the development of nude photography. The collection covers approximately a century of photography, from the pioneering days of the medium in the 19th century through the first half of the 20th century.
The collection was assembled by Uwe Scheid (1944–2000), a German collector specializing in historical erotic photography, particularly works dating from approximately 1840 to 1940. Scheid was associated with several important photographic organizations, including the German Photographic Academy, the European Society for the History of Photography, Club Daguerre and the Daguerreian Society.
The book contains a remarkable variety of historical photographs, accompanied by brief introductory texts exploring the relationship between photography, changing social attitudes, technology and art. Beyond its visual appeal, the book provides an interesting historical record of how representations of the human body developed alongside the photographic medium.
An attractive publication for collectors of TASCHEN books, vintage photography, photographic history and art books. Its 1994 first-edition status and excellent overall condition make this a particularly desirable example.
