Product information

Remastered reissue of the solo debut of Brian May, the legendary Queen guitarist. Almost 30 years after its release, 'Back To The Light' represents an intimate testament to the talent and tenacity of one of the leading guitarists and songwriters of his generation. The album contains the track "Too Much Love Will Kill You" believed by Brian to be the important recording of his life. Upon its release in September 1992, Back to the Light was an absolute hit. Reaching number 6 on the UK album charts, and generating memorable singles. Presented to Queen fans during an exciting performance at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, at Wembley Stadium in April 1992, "Too Much Love Will Kill You" reached number 5 on the UK chart. "Driven By You" had already reached No. 6 and "Back To The Light" and "Resurrection" were also on the charts, while the instrumental "Last Horizon" would become a staple in both Brian May Band solo concerts and May later with Queen. 'Back To The Light' was written during a period of immense personal upheaval between 1988 and 1992 characterized by the loss of his father, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, the temporary cessation of the band's activities, May's split from his first wife, and the relationship with Anita Dobson that unwittingly brought him to the attention of tablos id. id. Brian spoke about the struggles he experienced because of these life changes, describing the album as a kind of therapy. 'Back to the Light' presents itself as an album of heart and resilience. Brian wrote on the cover notes: "I didn't feel a real hope of finding the light at first; now it shines dimly, encouraging, but always intermittently around me." Nearly three decades later, Brian's new cover notes include a tribute to the late Cozy Powell. "In 2021, by proudly presenting this work to a new audience," Brian writes, "and carefully noting my original cover notes, I can report that I am still looking for answers to most of the questions asked at the time. The light still shines dark, tempting, always a little out of reach. Music helps us." Collector's Edition box containing an exclusive white vinyl LP, 2 CDs, a 32-page book and an exclusive art print.
