Searching For The Young Soul Rebels is the acclaimed debut album by British band Dexys Midnight Runners, originally released in July 1980. Led by the passionate and unmistakable voice of Kevin Rowland, the band created a distinctive sound combining classic soul, rhythm & blues, Northern soul and the raw energy of punk and new wave.
From the opening notes of Burn It Down, the album delivers an intense mixture of driving rhythms, powerful horn arrangements and emotionally charged vocals. Dexys Midnight Runners brought a refreshing sense of urgency to the British music scene, drawing inspiration from American soul while developing an unmistakable identity of their own.
The album's best-known track, Geno, pays tribute to American soul singer Geno Washington. It became a number one hit in the United Kingdom and remains one of the defining British singles of the early 1980s.
