Making Movies is the third studio album by Dire Straits, originally released in 1980. The record marked an important development in the British band's sound, with more ambitious and cinematic arrangements while retaining Mark Knopfler's distinctive guitar playing and songwriting. The album was produced by Jimmy Iovine and Mark Knopfler.
Featuring Tunnel Of Love, Romeo And Juliet and Skateaway, Making Movies contains some of the most celebrated songs in the Dire Straits catalogue. The epic Tunnel Of Love, running for more than eight minutes, also became a long-standing favourite in the band's live performances.
The album was recorded at the Power Station studios in New York. Roy Bittan, best known as the pianist of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, contributes keyboards, helping give the record its rich and expansive sound.
