Product information
Elvis – The Jan/Feb 1971 Soundboard Recordings is an extensive 4CD Collector’s Edition featuring original concert recordings from Elvis Presley’s January and February 1971 Las Vegas engagement. The recordings are presented as they were captured through the soundboard, without artificial stereo processing.
This collection makes an interesting companion to the releases issued by the Follow That Dream label. Several performances from the January 26, 1971 Opening Show were not included on the corresponding FTD release. This set features previously omitted material such as Love Me Tender, The Wonder Of You, Make The World Go Away and the encore performance of Something.
The collection also includes recordings from the February 23, 1971 Closing Show, which were not made available through FTD. Although only the first part of Suspicious Minds survives, the recording offers a fascinating document of Elvis closing this particular Las Vegas season.
Across four CDs, the set presents material from several performances, including the January 26 Opening Show, the January 27 Midnight Show and the Dinner and Midnight Shows from January 28 and 29, 1971. Together, these recordings provide a varied overview of Elvis’ repertoire and stage performances during the engagement.
Highlights include powerful renditions of That’s All Right, Mystery Train / Tiger Man, Sweet Caroline, You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’, Polk Salad Annie, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Little Sister / Get Back, Snowbird and The Impossible Dream. The set also preserves spontaneous dialogue, false starts, band introductions and unusual encore performances.
Bonus material includes Elvis’ Jaycees Award acceptance speech, recorded in Memphis on January 16, 1971, and an April 1971 telephone conversation with DEA detective Ron Wentz.
The package is completed with collectible extras, including replica postcards. With its original mono soundboard presentation and combination of familiar and rare recordings, this is an appealing collection for fans of Elvis Presley’s early-1970s live performances.
