Elvis Presley – We Aim To Please | Limited 2CD Digipack
May 7th 1976 Midnight Show – Sahara Tahoe
Elvis Presley – We Aim To Please: May 7th 1976 Midnight Show is a strictly limited 2CD collector’s edition from Knock Out Records, presenting Elvis’ complete Midnight Show from May 7, 1976 at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel & Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
One of the main attractions of this release is its source. Although the concert has appeared before, Knock Out Records presents this edition from an original 1st generation tape, offering a cleaner and clearer representation of the performance according to the label.
Running for almost 92 minutes, We Aim To Please provides a substantial document of Elvis live during his May 1976 Lake Tahoe engagement.
Elvis at the Sahara Tahoe
Following the traditional opening of Also Sprach Zarathustra and C.C. Rider, Elvis moves into I Got A Woman / Amen, Love Me, If You Love Me (Let Me Know) and You Gave Me A Mountain.
Classic material follows with All Shook Up and Teddy Bear / Don’t Be Cruel, before one of the highlights of the release: a rare complete performance of The Wonder Of You.
There are also several personal and spontaneous moments. Elvis sings Happy Birthday to Sandy, introduces Ed Parker and performs I’ll Remember You, complete with a lengthy false start. A brief excerpt of Ku-U-I-Po and a performance of Hawaiian Wedding Song add further variety.
Almost 92 minutes of Elvis live
Disc 2 opens with the band introductions and instrumental spotlights, featuring musicians including Ronnie Tutt, Jerry Scheff, Tony Brown and David Briggs.
Elvis then returns with Love Letters and My Way, followed by classics such as Jailhouse Rock and Love Me Tender. Another highlight is Hurt, performed twice during the show.
The closing section remains particularly varied, featuring Heartbreak Hotel, How Great Thou Art, another performance of Polk Salad Annie, One Night and It’s Now Or Never. As usual, Can’t Help Falling In Love and the Closing Vamp bring the concert to its conclusion.
