Golden Earring is the most successful rock band in the Netherlands. The Hague-based quartet owes this status largely to its international success, particularly in America. From the late 1960s to the mid-1980s, the band performed there countless times. Albums like Moontan and Cut achieved spectacular sales figures. The hits Radar Love and Twilight Zone became classics, still played daily on American rock stations.

While we can now closely follow the international adventures of Dutch bands thanks to social media, Golden Earring's fortunes in this pre-internet era were largely hidden from the public eye at home. As a result, many uncertainties quickly arose.

Which American tours were successful, and which were not? What dramas unfolded behind the scenes? How did top international acts view this Dutch success story? And perhaps most importantly: did Golden Earring succeed in America? This book answers these and many other questions. From this unique perspective, the band's history is reconstructed step by step. Mistakes and misunderstandings are corrected, and new facts are introduced.

The story is largely based on the archives and memories of bassist and early band member Rinus Gerritsen. There are important contributions from former members Robert Jan Stips and Eelco Gelling. Leading figures from bands like KISS, Rush, and Triumph look back on the shows they once played in America as the opening or opening acts for Golden Earring.

Golden Earring - The American Dream thus describes for the first time the band's most important, successful, and creative period. The story is enhanced by photographic material, the vast majority of which has never been published before. The book is being published at a time when the band is once again in the spotlight thanks to their recent number-one album, Tits 'N Ass.
