Product information
An outstanding and increasingly scarce survivor from the golden age of penny arcade amusement machines. This original GUM-A-MIB machine dates to the 1930s and combines vending, gaming, and skill-based entertainment in one ingenious countertop machine.
The name "MIB" was period slang for a marble, and the machine was designed with separate compartments for gumballs and marbles. For just one penny, a player would receive a gumball and the opportunity to play for a marble prize. After inserting a penny and pushing the plunger, a marble would roll onto the machine's distinctive whirlwind-style playing field. The challenge was to skillfully shoot the marble into the winning hole. If successful, the player received a marble; otherwise, it returned to the machine for future play. Every player still received a gumball for their penny, making the game both entertaining and rewarding.
This example remains in beautifully unrestored original condition, displaying decades of authentic character and patina. Even better, the machine is working and comes filled with both marbles and gumballs, allowing it to be displayed exactly as it would have appeared in a candy store, arcade, drugstore, or general store nearly a century ago.
With its combination of vending machine history, penny arcade appeal, and interactive gameplay, the GUM-A-MIB is a highly sought-after piece among collectors of coin-op machines, vintage amusement devices, and Americana.
