What the Rolling Stones did for the blues in England, Cuby and the Blizzards did in the Netherlands: popularize originally black music. Both bands formed in 1962. Harry Muskee and Eelco Gelling were the core of the group from Drenthe that turned the whole country upside down. Their first LP Desolation received an Edison in 1968. It was followed by legendary records such as Greetings from Grollo and Appleknockers Flophouse. The line-up of the band changed quite often, with phenomena such as Hans Waterman, Hans La Faille, Herman Deinum, Helmig van der Vegt and Herman Brood. C + B gave a farewell concert in 1974. Harry Muskee continued with other bands. In 1995, Muskee's old friend Johan Derksen got the idea to revive Cuby and the Blizzards. Then a new star guitarist was added: Erwin Java. It was another fascinating time, full of ups and downs. In June 2011, the C+B Museum opened in Harry Muskee's former farm in Grolloo. It was just before his 70th birthday. Harry passed away on September 26, 2011. In 2003 his biography De Missie was published. The book was awarded in 2006. In 2008 there was a supplemented reissue. Ten years after Harry's death, Jeroen Wielaert decided to complete the biography by supplementing the book with everything that has happened around Harry Muskee since 2008. It became Final Blues. Final Blues describes the heritage of Harry and the band. That legacy remains very much alive. This was also apparent from the tour of former band members, friends and relatives of Harry Muskee, including Daniƫl Lohues, Willy Middel, Hans La Faille, Herman Deinum, Helmig van der Vegt, Erwin Java, Eelco Gelling, Johan Derksen and Douwien Oosterhof-Muskee. All in all, this provides a deeper insight into their lives and work. The book has thus become pop history against the background of many major social developments. Huub 'Huby' van der Lubbe: 'He had that underdog feeling and therefore also had a heart for other underdogs.' Kaz Lux: 'A charismatic figure.' Ralph de Jongh: 'He called himself 'my angry uncle'. Ben Jolink (Normal): 'He wasn't always gloomy and he was essentially a good and friendly person.' Tineke Schoemaker (Barrelhouse): 'Cuby was the hero, by far the greatest.'
