The 1970s were the period when Herman Brood emerged as a singer, but above all, he became a phenomenon. The whole of the Netherlands was captivated by Brood, and one of those who experienced this special period was Tom Metz, then a student at the Photo Academy in The Hague.
Brood's first LP, "Street," had just been released, and Tom was a fan. So he approached Brood and asked if he could shadow Brood for a while to take photos for his final exam project. Tom was granted permission without hesitation; no restrictions were imposed. Ultimately, Tom followed Herman Brood for nine months, resulting in a vast collection of photos and slides from that turbulent period.
For years, Tom entertained the idea of doing "something" with all that material. In 2009, he approached Koos van Dijk. Van Dijk was immediately enthusiastic and began sharing all sorts of stories about the photos. This led to the idea of having Koos, along with guitarist Dany Lademacher, tell all sorts of stories based on the photos.
This "interview" is recorded on DVD. The photos in this book are accompanied by short excerpts from the stories Koos and Dany told Tom. The full story is on the accompanying DVD. The DVD was filmed on April 13, 2011, at the Back Stage Hotel in Amsterdam.
This resulted in a truly captivating collection, which will be released in November 2011, the year Herman Brood would have turned 65 and the tenth anniversary of his jump from the Hilton Hotel. The first copy will be presented in early November at the aforementioned Back Stage Hotel, where a Herman Brood Room will have been created.
