Mr. Horsepower – a true hot rod legend

Mr. Horsepower is the iconic mascot of Clay Smith Cams, an American auto shop established in 1931.
A sneering, cigar-smoking bird with red feathers and a yellow beak, the character was inspired by Clay Smith (1915–1954) himself – a legendary hot rod mechanic known for his fiery red hair and race-winning engines.

This neon captures that rebellious, high-speed spirit perfectly – glowing above crossed racing flags in vivid, handcrafted color.
Even when unlit, the backplate artwork makes it an impressive display piece.

Why real neon instead of LED?

At Bennies Fifties, every piece is made from real hand-blown glass neon – not LED imitation.
Each tube is filled with noble gases, creating a living glow that LED simply can’t match.

Real neon gives you:

Warm, continuous light

Deep, rich color

True craftsmanship

Long-lasting durability

Authentic vintage character

LED copies the look. Real neon keeps the soul.

Handcrafted with passion for performance

Each Hot Rod Garage Neon is handmade by expert neon artisans.
Every curve and color is crafted with precision to honor the legacy of Mr. Horsepower and classic American racing culture.

The result: a unique piece of glowing automotive art that celebrates history, speed, and style.
