Second Song is the 2026 studio album by legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young and his band The Chrome Hearts. Released on September 18, 2026, through Reprise Records, it marks the band's second studio album together.
Musically, Second Song returns to the warm, reflective and largely acoustic atmosphere of Neil Young classics such as Comes A Time and Prairie Wind. The album combines intimate songwriting, expressive guitar playing and organic arrangements with the natural musical chemistry between Young and his band.
Featuring seven compositions, the album includes five previously unreleased songs and two previously unheard alternative versions. The lyrics explore memories, love, the passage of time and the changing ways we experience the past, present and future.
The title track Second Song is one of the album's central compositions, while The Foggy Edge Of Time, Earth Girl and Soon I Might Be Going highlight Young's ability to create powerful emotional moments through understated melodies and thoughtful lyrics.
Recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, the album was produced by Lou Adler and The Volume Dealers, the production partnership of Neil Young and Niko Bolas. John Hanlon handled the recording engineering and mixing.
The Chrome Hearts feature Anthony LoGerfo on drums, Corey McCormick on bass and vocals, Micah Nelson on electric guitar and vocals, and Spooner Oldham on keyboards. Neil Young contributes vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, harmonica and additional instruments.
This edition is pressed on 140-gram black vinyl. The LP presents the seven compositions across two sides, with the title track divided into two parts for the vinyl format.
Second Song is a thoughtful, atmospheric addition to Neil Young's extensive discography and an excellent choice for fans of folk rock, country rock and timeless singer-songwriter music.
