Glassworks is one of the best-known and most accessible works by influential American composer Philip Glass. Originally released in 1982, the album was deliberately conceived as a more accessible introduction to Glass' distinctive compositional style, combining repetitive structures with warm, melodic and hypnotic soundscapes.
Performed by The Philip Glass Ensemble and conducted by Michael Riesman, its six compositions perfectly demonstrate Glass' unique musical language. From the instantly recognisable piano of Opening to the pulsating patterns of Floe and Rubric and the atmospheric beauty of Façades, Glassworks remains an ideal introduction to the music of Philip Glass.
Several pieces later found a place in cinema. Rubric and Façades appeared in the documentary Man on Wire, Floe was featured in the Italian horror film The Church, while Opening appeared in the American remake of Breathless.
This special Music On Vinyl edition is pressed on 180 gram translucent blue vinyl and is limited worldwide to only 2,000 individually numbered copies. The edition is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
