The Blue Box is an extensive 13CD Shocking Blue collection, released in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary Dutch rock band. Bringing together the key recordings from their career, it offers an impressive overview of one of the most internationally successful Dutch groups of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Shocking Blue achieved worldwide fame with Venus, but the catalogue created around guitarist/songwriter Robbie van Leeuwen and vocalist Mariska Veres extends far beyond that famous international hit. The Blue Box brings together the band's classic albums, including Shocking Blue, At Home, Scorpio's Dance, 3rd Album, Inkpot, Attila, Dream On Dreamer and Good Times, as well as Live In Japan.

Of particular interest to collectors is Ham, an album recorded in 1973 but left unreleased at the time. The collection also incorporates extensive A- and B-side single collections, rarities and additional recordings, making The Blue Box much more than a straightforward bundle of the band's original albums.

Naturally, the set includes many of the songs that made Shocking Blue famous, including Venus, Never Marry A Railroad Man, Mighty Joe, Shocking You, Blossom Lady, Inkpot, Send Me A Postcard and Love Buzz. The latter later reached a new generation when Nirvana recorded their own version.

Across the collection, the band's remarkable musical range becomes clear. Shocking Blue combined rock, psychedelia, beat, blues rock and melodic pop into a distinctive sound, driven by Mariska Veres' instantly recognisable voice and Robbie van Leeuwen's songwriting and guitar work.

The 13 CDs are housed in individual cardboard replica sleeves reproducing the original album artwork and presented together in a box. A substantial 56-page booklet is also included. With a total playing time of more than nine hours, this is an exceptionally comprehensive Shocking Blue collection.
