The Colour Of Spring is the third studio album by Talk Talk and one of the defining records in the British band's remarkable career. Originally released in 1986, it represents the fascinating transition between the synth-driven pop of their early years and the increasingly organic and experimental approach that would reach its full expression on Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock.

Led by singer and songwriter Mark Hollis, Talk Talk began moving away from conventional synth-pop arrangements towards a richer palette of real instruments and spacious production. Piano, organ, guitar, bass, drums and percussion combine with carefully integrated synthesizers to give The Colour Of Spring its warm, dynamic and remarkably timeless character.

Its best-known song is undoubtedly Life’s What You Make It. Driven by its hypnotic piano figure, powerful drums and Hollis' unmistakable vocals, the track became one of Talk Talk's most enduring songs.

Living In Another World is another major highlight, gradually developing into an expansive arrangement filled with organ, harmonica, guitar and driving rhythms. Give It Up displays the album's more immediate side, while Happiness Is Easy, April 5th and Chameleon Day explore subtler and more atmospheric territory.

The closing Time It’s Time brings many of the album's qualities together in an ambitious finale, demonstrating just how far Talk Talk had moved beyond their early pop beginnings.

Several guest musicians contributed to the sessions, including Steve Winwood, whose Hammond organ can be heard on multiple tracks. Producer and musical collaborator Tim Friese-Greene also played a crucial role in developing the album's distinctive sound alongside Mark Hollis.

The Colour Of Spring remains an essential LP for fans of Talk Talk, art pop, sophisti-pop, new wave and adventurous 1980s music.
