Soft Control is the tenth studio album by The Afghan Whigs, released on August 21, 2026 through Royal Cream/BMG. Arriving as the influential American rock band celebrates its 40th anniversary, the album features ten new songs that continue the group's unmistakable combination of gritty rock, soul and R&B.

This special pressing comes on striking Pink & Black Smush With Splatter Vinyl and is an Indies Exclusive / Indies Only edition. Its combination of pink and black smush colouring with splatter gives the record a distinctive collectable appearance. The edition carries catalogue number 964257131 and UPC/EAN 4099964257137.

On Soft Control, frontman Greg Dulli sounds reflective and self-aware without sacrificing the intensity that has always defined The Afghan Whigs. Dulli has described reaching a point where the anger that once fuelled his creativity has evolved into a quieter confidence, giving the album a mature perspective while retaining the band's characteristic edge.

Musically, the album combines muscular guitars with the band's deep-rooted affection for soul and R&B, balancing powerful rock songs with darker and more contemplative passages. Dulli's emotive vocals remain firmly at the centre of the record.

Soft Control was recorded at Fireside Sound in Joshua Tree, Marigny Studios in New Orleans, Gold Diggers Sound in East Hollywood and Sycamore in Cincinnati. The band recorded 22 songs before narrowing the final album down to ten tracks and approximately 37 minutes. Guest contributors include former Afghan Whigs drummer Patrick Keeler, vocalist and violist Petra Haden, and My Morning Jacket's Bo Koster.

Opening with Jungle Roux, the album also includes singles House Of I and Duvateen, alongside My Lover, Mariah Luster, Memphis, Texas and Loose Talk. The record concludes with the extended A Simulation.

An essential coloured-vinyl release for fans of The Afghan Whigs, Greg Dulli, alternative rock, soul-infused rock and dark, emotionally charged guitar music.
