Different Light is the hugely successful second studio album by The Bangles and one of the most instantly recognisable pop-rock records of the 1980s. Originally released in 1986, the album transformed the American band into international stars through an infectious combination of melodic pop, guitar-driven rock, power pop and distinctive harmony vocals.

One of its defining tracks is Manic Monday, written by Prince under the pseudonym Christopher. Released as the album's first single, it became The Bangles' first major international hit, reaching number 2 in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany.

Even greater success followed with Walk Like An Egyptian, which became the band's first US number 1 single and remains one of the defining pop hits of the decade. Different Light also produced singles including Walking Down Your Street, If She Knew What She Wants and Following.

The twelve-track album demonstrates that The Bangles were far more than a singles act. Alongside Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson and Michael Steele all contribute to the band's distinctive vocal identity. The record also includes their version of September Gurls, originally written by Alex Chilton and recorded by Big Star, alongside songs such as In A Different Light, Let It Go, Angels Don't Fall In Love and Not Like You.

Produced by David Kahne, Different Light became The Bangles' most successful album, reaching number 2 on the Billboard 200 and achieving multi-Platinum status in several countries.
