The Byrds: The Notorious Byrd Brothers (White Vinyl) LP

The Byrds – The Notorious Byrd Brothers (White Vinyl) LP

Available at Bennies Fifties and the online Fifties Store

The Notorious Byrd Brothers is the fifth studio album by The Byrds and one of the most adventurous records of their career. Originally released in 1968, the album blends folk rock, psychedelia, country, jazz and experimental pop, even incorporating the Moog modular synthesizer into its forward-looking sound.

The album was created during a turbulent period in the band's history. David Crosby departed during the recording sessions, while former member Gene Clark briefly returned. Guitarist Clarence White, who would later officially join The Byrds, also contributed to the sessions. The album was produced by Gary Usher.

Despite the personnel changes, The Notorious Byrd Brothers is remarkably cohesive, with songs flowing naturally into one another. Musically, it forms an important bridge between the band's famous jangling folk-rock sound and the country-rock direction they would explore further afterwards.

Highlights include Goin' Back and Wasn't Born To Follow, both written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, alongside Artificial Energy, Draft Morning, Change Is Now and Dolphin's Smile.

This special Music On Vinyl edition is pressed on 180 gram white vinyl and is limited worldwide to only 1,500 individually numbered copies. It comes in a deluxe sleeve with a linen laminate finish and is released on August 14, 2026.
