Greatest Hits is the ultimate collection of the biggest songs by American punk rock band The Offspring. Originally released on June 21, 2005, the album brings together the energetic, melodic and rebellious sound that helped the band attract millions of fans around the world throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
With their explosive combination of punk rock, pop punk, alternative rock and infectious melodies, The Offspring became one of the most important bands in the modern punk rock scene.
Formed in Garden Grove, California, in 1984, the group developed a distinctive style built around fast guitars, powerful drums, humorous lyrics and unforgettable choruses.
Led by vocalist and guitarist Dexter Holland, alongside guitarist Noodles, The Offspring helped introduce punk rock to a much wider international audience while retaining their high-energy musical identity.
Their major breakthrough came in 1994 with Smash, which became one of the most successful independently released rock albums in history. Songs such as Come Out And Play and Self Esteem became international classics and established The Offspring as a major presence on rock radio and music television.
Both tracks appear on Greatest Hits and remain among the band's most recognisable recordings.
Come Out And Play (Keep 'Em Separated) combines a distinctive guitar riff with an irresistible rhythm and an instantly memorable chorus. Self Esteem is one of The Offspring's most celebrated songs, featuring powerful vocals, dynamic arrangements and relatable lyrics about a troubled relationship.
Gotta Get Away reveals a rawer and more introspective side of the band. Like the previous two songs, it originally appeared on the groundbreaking album Smash.
The successful 1997 album Ixnay On The Hombre is represented by All I Want and Gone Away. The latter stands out for its emotional intensity, demonstrating that The Offspring could create deeply personal music alongside their more humorous punk rock material.
From the hugely successful 1998 album Americana, the compilation features several of the band's biggest international hits.
Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) became a worldwide success thanks to its humorous lyrics, infectious rhythm and unforgettable chorus. It remains one of the defining alternative rock singles of the late 1990s.
Why Don't You Get A Job? is another enduring fan favourite. Its light-hearted, almost celebratory melody contrasts with the satirical lyrics, making it one of the band's most accessible hits.
The Kids Aren't Alright is among The Offspring's most powerful songs. Combining fast, driving guitars with melancholy lyrics about lost dreams and the harsh realities of adulthood, it remains a highlight of their catalogue.
The collection also includes successful tracks from Conspiracy Of One, released in 2000, including Original Prankster and Want You Bad. Both songs showcase the band's melodic, radio-friendly side without sacrificing their punk rock energy.
Defy You originally appeared on the soundtrack to the 2002 film Orange County and became a favourite among fans.
The 2003 album Splinter is represented by Hit That and (Can't Get My) Head Around You. These recordings demonstrate how the band continued to develop its sound during the early 2000s.
One of the collection's special features is Can't Repeat, a song recorded specifically for Greatest Hits. Its lyrics reflect on the past, growing older and the inevitable changes that come with life.
Greatest Hits offers an impressive overview of The Offspring's musical evolution, from the raw punk rock of Smash to the internationally successful alternative rock hits of Americana, Conspiracy Of One and Splinter.
This LP is an excellent choice for fans of The Offspring, Green Day, Blink-182, Bad Religion, Sum 41, NOFX and American punk rock from the 1990s and 2000s.
An essential collection packed with memorable guitar riffs, energetic drumming, sharp lyrics and irresistible sing-along choruses.
