Best... I is an essential compilation from The Smiths, the hugely influential British band centred around Morrissey and Johnny Marr. Originally released in 1992, the collection brings together fourteen tracks from the band's remarkably brief yet enormously influential career.

The album provides an excellent introduction to the unmistakable Smiths sound: Morrissey's distinctive and frequently melancholic vocals combined with Johnny Marr's melodic, inventive guitar playing. Together with bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce, they created a musical style that would have an enormous impact on indie, alternative rock and later Britpop.

The collection opens with This Charming Man, one of the band's signature singles. Marr's sparkling guitar and Morrissey's instantly recognisable vocal make it a perfect example of the classic early Smiths sound.

Another essential inclusion is How Soon Is Now?, with its hypnotic tremolo guitar and dark atmosphere. Other favourites include What Difference Does It Make?, Girlfriend In A Coma, Panic, Shoplifters Of The World Unite and William, It Was Really Nothing.

The compilation also includes Hand In Glove, the band's debut single, alongside Sheila Take A Bow, Half A Person and the beautiful Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.
