The Runaway Found is the captivating debut album by New Zealand indie rock band The Veils, originally released in 2004. Led by singer-songwriter Finn Andrews, the band developed a distinctive musical identity combining haunting melodies, atmospheric guitars and emotionally intense vocals.

The album blends indie rock, alternative rock and folk rock with a dark, romantic atmosphere. Its songs move effortlessly between intimate, reflective passages and dramatic musical crescendos, creating a rich and cinematic listening experience.

This 2026 reissue is pressed on black vinyl and released through Rough Trade Records. With the band's early albums having received relatively limited vinyl releases during the 2000s, this new pressing provides an excellent opportunity to rediscover their debut on LP.

The album opens with The Wild Son, an atmospheric introduction showcasing Finn Andrews' expressive voice and the band's distinctive sound. Guiding Light follows with a more melodic approach, while Lavinia remains one of the band's most memorable early recordings.

Other highlights include More Heat Than Light and The Tide That Left And Never Came Back, both demonstrating the group's talent for combining emotional songwriting with expansive musical arrangements.

The second half features The Leavers Dance, Talk Down The Girl and Vicious Traditions, continuing the album's exploration of love, longing and emotional uncertainty.

Closing track The Nowhere Man provides a fitting conclusion to a record that remains powerful and atmospheric more than two decades after its original release.

The Runaway Found established the musical foundations for The Veils' later albums Nux Vomica and Sun Gangs. With its dramatic arrangements, heartfelt songwriting and distinctive vocals, it remains an essential record for fans of alternative rock and atmospheric indie music.
