The Story of Rock Legend Alex Van Halen – The Gift Book for Music Lovers
In this intimate and candid book, Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music, and brotherly love. It's a tribute to his brother and bandmate Edward (Eddie) Van Halen, who passed away on October 6, 2020.
Alex recounts their childhood—first in the Netherlands and then in working-class Pasadena, California—with a traveling musician father and a very respectable Indonesian-born mother. He also shares stories of their struggles and plenty of mischievous behavior.
But above all, it's a story of brotherhood, music, and enduring love. "I was with him from day one," Alex writes. "We shared the experience of coming to America and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, a house, a mother and father." Later, we shared the backseat of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experiences of becoming famous, becoming a father and uncle. I shared more hours in the studio with Edward than I've spent on anything else in my life. We had a mutual understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in their lives.
In "Brothers," Alex tells the real facts about Edward's life and death.
Alex Van Halen was born in the Netherlands. In the United States, he and his brother Edward founded the band Van Halen. They broke through in 1978, sold tens of millions of records, and remained at the top of the charts. After Edward's death in 2020, the band disbanded.
