Keep The Pressure On: The Beverley’s Rock Steady Singles 1966-1967 is an outstanding 2LP compilation featuring 28 Jamaican recordings from the formative golden age of rocksteady. The collection focuses on the influential Beverley’s Records catalogue and recordings made during 1966 and 1967.
This was a pivotal period in Jamaican music, when the energetic sound of ska was giving way to the slower, soulful rhythms of rocksteady. Beverley’s became one of Kingston's leading record companies and played an important role in the development of the sound that would soon evolve into reggae.
Desmond Dekker & The Aces feature prominently with recordings including It’s A Shame, Wise Man, 007, Rudy Got Soul, Rude Boy Train, Young Generation and Mother Young Gal. Derrick Morgan contributes Tougher Than Tough, Greedy Gal and Court Dismiss.
There is also an excellent selection of instrumentals by Roland Alphonso & The Beverley’s All-Stars, alongside recordings by Winston Weir & George Agard, The Spanishtonians, The Rio Grandes, Norman Grant and Freddie McKay.
The album is the third instalment in Music On Vinyl's exclusive Trojan compilation series and was compiled by reggae authority Laurence Cane-Honeysett, who also provides the liner notes.
This collector's edition is pressed on 180 gram orange coloured vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve, individually numbered and limited worldwide to only 1,500 copies.
A superb double album for fans of rocksteady, ska, early reggae, Trojan Records and classic Jamaican music.
